Open access: buy cheaper, greener power for your plant

Open access lets you buy electricity from a generator of your choice, usually a solar or wind project, and have it delivered to your premises over the transmission and distribution network. For many HT consumers the landed cost of open access power is well below the grid tariff, which makes it one of the largest cost levers available.

Who can use it in Maharashtra

100 kW+

Green energy open access

Consumers with a contract demand or sanctioned load of 100 kW or more. Several connections in the same electricity circle can be added together to reach 100 kW.

1 MW+

Conventional open access

Larger consumers can buy power through conventional open access from 1 MW of contract demand.

No limit

Captive and rooftop

Captive arrangements have no minimum load, and consumers with rooftop solar can use open access at the same time.

What decides your saving

  • Generator tariffThe price agreed with the solar or wind developer in the power purchase agreement.
  • Transmission and wheeling chargesFor using the MSETCL and MSEDCL networks to carry the power to you.
  • Cross-subsidy surchargeCompensates the utility for the subsidy your tariff would otherwise have carried.
  • Additional surchargeNot levied on green energy open access consumers who continue to pay fixed charges.
  • LossesTransmission and distribution losses reduce the units that actually reach your meter.
  • Standby and banking chargesFor backup supply, and for storing surplus power to use later.
  • Your load profileSolar power arrives in the day, so savings are highest when your consumption matches it.

These charges change with each MERC tariff order, and the rules on banking have been under challenge in court. We work out the numbers on the rules in force when you decide, not on last year's figures.

How we help

  1. Feasibility and landed cost

We study 12 months of your bills and compare today's grid cost with the full landed cost of open access, charge by charge.

  2. The right model

Captive, group captive or third-party purchase: we compare them and review the power purchase agreement before you sign.

  3. Applications and approvals

We prepare and follow up the open access application, connectivity and metering requirements with the utility and the nodal agency.

  4. Settlement and bill checks

Every month we check energy accounting, banking and the open access credits on your bill, so savings are not lost to errors.

Estimate your open access saving

Energy audits that pay for themselves

An energy audit measures where your electricity goes and where money is being lost, then gives you a costed plan. Many of the biggest savings need little or no investment, because they come from how you are billed rather than from new equipment.

Right-size contract demand

Demand charges are a fixed monthly cost linked to your contract demand and recorded maximum demand. We check whether your contract demand is too high and how to control peaks.

Little or no investment

Shift load into solar hours

Under the ToD tariff, consumption between 09:00 and 17:00 earns a rebate, while evening peak hours cost extra. Moving flexible loads such as pumping, charging and batch processes saves money directly.

Little or no investment

Power factor under kVAh billing

HT consumers are billed on kVAh, so every point of power factor lost is paid for. Correct capacitor banks and harmonic filters bring billed units down.

Short payback

Tariff category and billing errors

Wrong categories, wrong multiplying factors and missed incentives quietly add to bills. We check them line by line and pursue refunds.

Recovers past overpayments

Motors, pumps, fans and compressors

Variable speed drives, correctly sized motors and fixing compressed-air leaks reduce the largest running loads in most plants.

Investment with measurable payback

Transformer and distribution losses

Lightly loaded transformers, long LT cables and poor joints waste energy continuously. We measure losses and suggest practical fixes.

Investment with measurable payback

Lighting and air conditioning

LED fittings, controls and better air-conditioning settings cut consumption in offices, malls, hospitals and societies.

Short payback

Solar and open access

Once waste is removed, we size rooftop solar or open access to the load that remains, so you do not over-invest.

Long-term cost reduction

Safety and compliance

The audit also flags earthing, protection and statutory issues that can lead to penalties, breakdowns or accidents.

Avoids penalties and downtime

How the audit works

  1. Bill analysis

Twelve months of bills: demand, ToD split, power factor, incentives, penalties and tariff category.

  2. Site survey and measurement

We walk the site and log the main incomer and key feeders with a power analyser to see how load really behaves.

  3. Costed recommendations

Each measure comes with the investment needed, the annual saving and the payback period, in priority order.

  4. Implementation and verification

We carry out or supervise the work, then compare bills before and after to confirm the saving.

Designated consumers under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 must also have periodic mandatory audits by an accredited energy auditor. We help you prepare for them and act on their findings.

MSEDCL tariff and billing advice that pays for itself

We study the energy bills of energy-intensive consumers and show you which incentives you are missing, which penalties you can avoid, and whether you are on the right tariff category. For power factor improvement we can work on a profit-sharing basis.

Why power factor matters

Power factor shows how much of the power you draw does useful work. Raising it means less current, cooler cables, longer equipment life and lower losses, and it earns an incentive instead of a penalty.

Rates are indicative. Actual incentives, rebates and penalties depend on the MERC tariff order in force and your tariff category.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about load sanction, bills, power factor and solar. You can also ask our assistant.

What services do you offer?

We cover the full power-supply lifecycle for HT, EHV and LT consumers: erection, testing and commissioning of substations, cables, panels, DG sets and earthing; load sanction and safety licences; tariff and billing consultancy; open access advisory, energy audits and power factor correction; inspection and maintenance; and rooftop and ground-mounted solar.

How do I get a new HT or LT load sanctioned?

We handle the whole process of obtaining HT or LT load from the electricity company or PWD: preparing the application and documents, arranging site visits and permissions, and following up until the load is released. We have secured regular and multi-party load sanctions for more than 100 consumers.

Can you reduce my electricity bill?

In most cases, yes. We study your energy bills and look for incentives and rebates you are not claiming (load factor, prompt payment, solar-hour ToD rebate, EHV rebate), penalties you can avoid, and whether you are billed under the right tariff category. We have helped more than 50 HT consumers with load reduction and tariff change.

What is power factor and why does it matter?

Power factor shows how much of the power you draw does useful work. HT consumers are billed in kVAh, so a low power factor directly increases the units you pay for, and also means more current, hotter cables and higher losses. We size and install the right capacitor banks with 24x7 support, and aim to bring your power factor close to unity within two months. We can also work on a profit-sharing model.

My bill looks wrong or has a penalty. Can you help?

Yes. We resolve billing disputes, including Section 126 assessment cases under the Electricity Act, 2003. We also prepare and follow up proposals for refund of electricity duty and security deposit, and for correction of wrong billing or wrong tariff category.

What is open access and can it cut my power cost?

Open access lets you buy electricity from a generator of your choice, usually solar or wind, and have it delivered over the grid. You pay the generator tariff plus transmission and wheeling charges, surcharges and losses. For many HT consumers this landed cost is well below the grid tariff. We compare the two from your bills, choose the right model (captive, group captive or third party), handle approvals and check the monthly settlement. Try the savings estimator.

Am I eligible for green energy open access?

In Maharashtra, green energy open access is available to consumers with a contract demand or sanctioned load of 100 kW or more, and several connections in the same electricity circle can be added together to reach that. Conventional open access starts at 1 MW, and captive arrangements have no minimum. Rooftop solar and open access can be used together.

What does an energy audit include and how much can I save?

We analyse 12 months of bills, survey the site, log the main feeders with a power analyser, and give you a report where every measure has its investment, annual saving and payback. Savings vary by site, so we calculate them from your own data. The quickest wins usually need little or no investment: right-sizing contract demand, shifting load into solar hours, correcting power factor and fixing billing errors. See the energy audit section.

How does the ToD tariff affect my bill?

Under the current MSEDCL time-of-day structure, consumption during solar hours (09:00 to 17:00) earns a rebate, while evening peak hours cost extra. Moving flexible loads such as pumping, charging and batch processes into the day can reduce your bill with little or no investment. Rates change with each MERC tariff order, so we check them against your bill.

Do you install rooftop solar?

Yes. We specialise in rooftop solar for individual consumers and also build ground-mounted plants. Recent work includes 3 MW at Sangola, 2.5 MW at Yavat and 1.5 MW at Warora, plus rooftop systems of 100 to 350 kW. With net metering, surplus solar power can be adjusted against your bill.

Can you get electrical safety licences?

Yes. We obtain electrical safety licences from the electrical inspector for transformers, high-rise buildings, lifts, escalators and DG sets, and arrange the site visits and permissions needed for installation and erection.

Do you offer inspection and maintenance?

Yes. We inspect transformers, cables and distribution boxes for hazards, verify statutory compliance, prepare annual maintenance schedules with history cards, carry out preventive maintenance, test earthing, and test and calibrate CTs, PTs, relays and meters with certificates.

Do you take up substation and electrical installation work?

Yes. We carry out erection, testing and commissioning of EHV and HV substations and their support structures, HT/LT cable laying and overhead lines, HT/LT panels, DG sets, low-side works, earthing, lightning arrestors for high-rise buildings, and SCADA automation.

Which areas do you serve?

Our office is at Seawoods, Navi Mumbai, and we work across Maharashtra, with projects in Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Solapur, Akola and Chandrapur.

Who is on your team?

The firm is led by Suresh Ganeshkar, former Chief Engineer at MSEDCL, and Vijaykumar Kamanna, former Executive Engineer at MSEDCL. They are supported by senior electrical engineers and specialists in supply chain, accounts, HR and IT, with more than 35 years of combined experience in electricity distribution.

Who have you worked with?

Clients include MSEDCL, NMMC, CIDCO, BEST, Reliance Jio, ICICI Bank, KFC India, Deepak Fertilisers, MGM Hospital, Glomax Mall, Adlabs Imagica and EV Homes, among others. We also laid overhead lines for Adani Projects at Osmanabad.

How much do your services cost?

It depends on the scope, so we quote after understanding your requirement, and we keep our fees reasonable. For power factor improvement we can also work on a profit-sharing basis. Share your latest bills or project details for a quote.
